About Alison

Alison enjoyed a range of careers such travel agent, airline representative and child minder before training in counselling skills and becoming a pastoral worker for The Methodist Church. It was there that she discovered so many people on the margins of society with mental health issues that were slipping through the net.

After being made redundant in 2008 she decided to channel her practical skills she’d used when  helping others to go to university to complete a degree in occupational therapy. After three years she qualified and worked in a hospice as a palliative occupational therapist (OT). She then went on to become a regional specialist in motor neurone disease before venturing into the corporate world of case management and medicolegal work.

In 2022 Alison formed her own company, OT Local. She travels the country providing assessments in a range of settings such as medicolegal, local authority, charities, and case management.

Last year Alison qualified as a Tai Chi practitioner, with a focus on rehabilitation after discovering the health benefits Tai Chi brings such as improving balance and core stability, reducing blood pressure and reducing stress amongst many other benefits.

Being self-employed can be hard work and places many demands on your time, but Alison appreciates the flexible working pattern to enable her to support her parents, go to the gym during the day and take short breaks in her motorhome. Alison learnt how to sew during lockdown and has recently taken up crochet, with mixed results. She always has a book nearby.
